Brief Introduction

Kavrepalanchok is one of 75 districts of Nepal, near Kathmandu valley having the area of 1396 sq.ft., situated to mid-hilly area majorly having the subtropical climate and elevation range of 280 meters to 3018 meters (Bethanchok Narayan Danda). It is bordered to the east by Ramechhap and Dolakha, west by Kathmandu valley, north by Sindhupalchok and south by Sindhuli and Makawanpur. It has 76 Village Development Committees (VDCs) and five municipalities including two newly organized i.e Panchkhal and kashikhanda. It has the huge potentialities of local tourism with the various geographic nature and cultural heritages. It is divided into 15 development clusters (Ilaka) and 4 electoral areas.  According to CBS, 2068, the total number of household is 80,720 with total population of 381,937 including the number of male 182,936 (47.90%) and female is 199,001 (52.10%). The adult literacy percentage is 62.77% and per capita income $1399.

DDC Kavrepalanchok is responsible for implementing all of the programmes and activities of local governance process as per the provisions of LSGA/LSGR and other rules, regulations and manuals of Government of Nepal to 76 VDCs and 5 municipalities for implementing the development activities assigned by Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD). Municipalities are autonomous for deciding and implementing their development activities and get the central grants directly from MoFALD. DDC plays the role of guardianship, implements overall activities of local governance and distributes the development activities to municipalities also. Moreover, DDC, Kavrepalanchok has the role of overall coordination on development activities with all of VDCs, Municipalities, line agencies and inter/national non-gevernment organizations (I/NGOs).
